As we navigate the ever-evolving landscape of business, we are acutely aware of our responsibility to contribute to a sustainable and resilient world. Our Sustainability Program is not just a commitment; it’s a reflection of our dedication to harmonizing economic growth with environmental stewardship and social well-being.

At SSI Sustainability is seen as a journey, rather than a project having a start and a finish line. We address sustainability topics because they are good for our business and, in general, the right things to do. Our sustainability strategy as outlined below.

What We Do For The Planet

  • Evaluating alternative forms of low-retention additives, resulting in annual reductions of 120 pounds of PFAS material.
  • Evaluating the use of packaging made from 100% recycled materials.
  • Converted 100% of shipping cartons from white cardboard to kraft corrugated materials.
  • Evaluating use of plant-based dyes in our marketing materials.
  • Incorporating PET (polyethylene) packaging which is fully recyclable.

Energy Efficiency and Conservation

  • Heavily invested in energy-efficient hybrid injection molding machines to reduce overall energy consumption.
  • Energy management systems have been put into place to optimise energy use such as with LED lighting and motion detection lighting in warehouse spaces.
  • More than 40% of manufacturing energy is sourced from carbon-free sources (such as solar, wind, eligible hydroelectric, geothermal, biomass and biowaste).
  • Water recycling and treatment in manufacturing.
  • 100% of company cars are electric with EV charging stations available for all employees to use.

Supply Chain Sustainability

  • Work with suppliers that adhere to sustainable practices and ethical standards.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to optimise packaging and transportation to reduce overall environmental impact.
  • Utilise EcoVadis and Sutainabill platforms as a robust assessment tool to evaluate and monitor our environmental, social and ethical performance to reinforce our commitment to creating a more sustainable and responsible business ecosystem.

Waste Reduction

  • Implement closed-loop systems where recycled materials are used in production of new products.
  • Up to 61% reduction in use of virgin polypropylene through use of new post-consumer recycled resin in production of racked pipette tips.

What We Do For Our People

  • Follow fair labor practices, providing a safe working environment, and continuous training.
  • Improving our culture through increased communication and collaboration, including more employees into our strategic discussions. By doing this, we enhance employee ownership in projects, resulting in a better work environment.
  • For decades, we have vigorously given back to the local community, charities, and 501C-3’s.

Regulatory Compliance and Governance

  • Working toward ISO14001, environmental management systems certification.
  • Identify ways be more efficient in our production, maintaining quality of performance and product.
  • Using sustainable materials and packaging.
  • Monitor energy management systems whereby we are deliberate in the energy reduction.
