What is your career background and how did you end up at Interpath Services?
I began my career as a Medical Research Scientist 28 years ago, where I developed a strong foundation in Research, Clinical, and Laboratory Operations. Over time, I progressed into leadership roles, ultimately becoming General Manager of Operations at a research facility in Melbourne. Seeking a new challenge in 2024 within the same field of medicine and science, I transitioned into category/product and business development at Interpath Services to apply my scientific expertise in a more strategic, outward-facing role. I had always known of Interpath Services and the quality products and services they provide, hence joining the team was an easy decision. Alongside my core responsibilities, I have also consulted within the field of Operations, Procurement and Laboratory Management, and enjoyed mentoring emerging lab managers, combining my operational experience with a passion for supporting the next generation of scientific leaders.
Tell us about your role with Interpath? What is your area of expertise?
As the Category Manager in a driven life science company, I am responsible for developing and executing strategies to grow a targeted portfolio of scientific products. My prior experience managing a research facility placed me in a strong position to understand customer needs—particularly around product selection, availability, and procurement. With a solid understanding of various research streams, including equipment and automation, I can provide tailored, fit-for-purpose solutions that align with both scientific and operational requirements.
What most do you like about your role and why?
I enjoy the role of Category Manager because it’s a dynamic, fast-paced, and intellectually engaging—no two days are the same. I value the opportunity to collaborate with a dedicated team across sales, operations, and customer service, where we work together to achieve our shared goals. I value cultivating strong relationships with suppliers and learning about new product innovations. The constant variety and continuous learning keep the role both rewarding and professionally fulfilling.
When you started with Interpath what most surprised you?
What surprised me most about Interpath is the genuine care and attention we put into meeting our customers’ needs. We don’t just supply products—we offer expert knowledge and support to ensure the right solution reaches the bench. I’ve come to truly value the amount of work involved in sourcing a product, often from across the globe. Each product passes through many hands, each adding a layer of expertise before it reaches our customers. This journey highlights why Interpath is so dedicated—this commitment stems from our deep understanding of how critical it is for our customers to have the right tools and support to carry out their important work, often life-changing and saving.
What are some of the challenges the market is facing?
The life science sector is navigating several key challenges, including global supply chain disruptions that impact product availability and lead times. Customers are under pressure to manage rising and operational costs while meeting increasing demand for tailored solutions and technical support. Funding is tough, and customers need to make their dollars stretch. The rapid pace of technological advancement adds another layer of complexity, requiring businesses to stay agile and continuously adapt. Sustainability is becoming a stronger focus, with the industry working to reduce its environmental impact while maintaining high standards of quality and performance.
What are your main priorities for 2025?
There are several priorities, with a primary focus on growing our categories by developing effective strategies based on market and customer insights. I will continue sourcing quality products and supporting our customers by providing value and tailored solutions to help them succeed in their endeavours. Additionally, I will manage supplier relationships to secure favourable terms, competitive pricing, and attractive promotions. My emphasis will also be on sustainable solutions that create long-term value, benefiting both Interpath Services and our customers.
What do you expect the big industry trends to be of 2025?
In 2025, the industry is experiencing transformative trends driven by technological innovation, data integration, and personalised care. Instrumentation, automation and AI are increasingly used to accelerate drug development, optimise clinical trials, analyse biological datasets, and enhance medical imaging. Sustainability is emerging as a priority, with companies investing in greener lab practices and supply chains. At Interpath, we take pride in embracing the latest technological trends and innovations. By actively sourcing front-line products, we ensure our product range remains relevant and forward-thinking, ‘leading the way’ for the future of the industry.
What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned over the past 12-18 months?
Starting a new career path is an exciting adventure. To make the most of it, I’ve embraced a learning mindset, and I’m focusing on building strong relationships with the Interpath team, customers, and suppliers. I don't hesitate to ask for guidance, and keeping organised is key. Taking initiative promotes enthusiasm, and understanding the bigger picture connects me to Interpath’s strategic goals.
Being adaptable to change is important, and welcoming feedback with open arms helps one grow!
